Top Effective Facebook Marketing Tips of 2020
Facebook is one of the most important marketing channels for any business. Almost any business has a huge potential audience on facebook. Particularly for B2C firms, facebook is one of the most important avenues of social media marketing you can leverage.
What are the best ways to actually use facebook for marketing?
In this post, we’ll take a look at some of the most effective methods for marketing a small or medium sized business on facebook.
1. Profile and Cover photos
Make sure that your profile picture and cover image look good. It’s easy to add a photo that doesn’t quite fit the crop ratio and size requirements and then looks terrible. The percent of businesses that have images that aren’t correctly positioned or cropped correctly is large. This immediately sends a negative message to your audience. Don’t let it be you! The profile image should be edited to be square, this could be 720 X 720, then facebook will scale it down to 180X 180, but any square image will do. You might need to work with your graphic designer or web content team member to edit a version of your logo that fits the square aspect ratio correctly. For the cover image, the image needs to be larger than 860 x 360, which gives you the ability to properly crop the image for both viewing modes. On mobile, facebook displays the cover image at 640x 360, then on desktop at 820 x 312. Once your cover image is edited, test on both device types.
2. Make sure your page is complete!
Many times businesses don’t completely build out their profile, such as office hours, location, “about us” etc. Make sure all this is properly filled out. This should take less than 30 minutes and let facebook users better understand your brand.
3. Add social icons on your emails and website
This is a great method to build a facebook audience. Work with your web designer to make sure you have social media icons that work correctly and let users easily navigate from your website, emails, newletters and other content to your social media pages.
4. Post Regularly
Facebook requires a time investment to really work well. Try to post something at least once a week at minimum, ideally more. Share current offers, adjusted holiday hours, any company news, reviews, industry related information etc. All of these give users the opportunity to interact with your brand.
5. Respond Quickly
When people comment and message you, try to respond very professionally and as quickly as possible. If a potential customer asks a question, the quicker and more professionally you can answer a question, the more positive that person’s interaction. Also, you will get complaints over time, try to address these very professionally and offer solutions to remedy the situation.
6. Incorporate Video Content
Video content is a great way to increase engagement on facebook. Videos retain an audience and increase engagement better than static photos. If you are creating videos for broadcast or other outlets, post them to facebook as well. For all video content, make sure to upload the video itself to facebook, instead of posting a youtube link. As a note, linkedin also prefers that you upload video content directly to its platform instead of sharing links. Video content doesn’t have to be expensive, highly produced, unlike broadcast, cable, etc, facebook videos can be filmed on a cheap camera or phone and be more a vlog style, or interview style. This costs very little but can rapidly increase your page’s effectiveness.
7. Encourage Shares and likes
Encourage your audience to share and like your posts, this will rank your content higher within facebook, which means facebook will put your content in front of more people since it is more popular. We don’t recommend doing it on every post, but here and there, add a line “ Don’t forget to share and like”….etc. This will help to promote shares that can heavily increase your page engagement and number of followers.
8. Engage with your audience
Follow local, city or industry organizations and occasionally like and comment on their posts. This can heavily increase traffic to your own page. An example might be commenting on a local festival’s page that your brand will be there.
9. Make sure your content look goods!
When you post images or offers to facebook make sure they look good. If you are working with a social media agency or graphic designer, they can easily help you to improve the visual identity of the content you are posting. There are numerous free programs, free stock image websites and other tools that can help you to build better-looking content while spending little.
10. Pay to Play
Facebook over the last few years, has made it harder for businesses to reach all their audience without paying for post boosts or PPC. While frustrating, the pros of facebook still far outweigh the cons. Consider for important new offers or sales, boosting your post for a small daily amount and also creating PPC ads. Facebook ads in general are pretty cheap compared with linkedin, or google and are highly targetable to very specific groups of people with specific interests, likes, demographics, locations, age, gender, job and more. You will need to spend some time becoming familiar with setting up ad targeting and always running an A/B campaign to improve your ad spend efficiency. However, over time this is an important tool for your brand, and one that will generate a very positive ROI when done correctly.
11. Don’t always promote your own offers or try to drive sales
Don’t post every day trying to push a sale, product, etc. Users will quickly grow tired of this and unfollow your page. While you should post good offers, make sure they are actually good offers. Education and interesting content that is related to your audience and brand should be the focus of your page. This includes sharing blog posts, interesting tips, etc. You can even share images and text your audience created. For example, our automotive clients will share reviews that customers wrote or photos their clients took of them enjoying their new vehicle.
Facebook marketing in 2020 is still a highly effective tool to build your brand, you need to put in the time it takes to make a good looking page, and share good looking, engaging content at least once a week. Over time your brand will grow.
