Each year we take a look and collect some of our favorite holiday ads of the year. With so many brands creating neat and very well-made holiday-themed ads, here are some of our favorites for 2021.
All the ads below are extremely well made, each likely costing at minimum several hundred thousand dollars to produce and up to several million for a few of them. From the “full” versions below, various shorter versions in 60, 30 and 15 second formats are created for broadcast, cable, and even digital ad placement. These ads took months of planning, and coordination between the client, marketing agency, and production house that actually filmed the project.
Aldi’s
In a neat stylistic take on Charles Dickens material, this ad from Aldi is a neat mix of animation and live-action footage of Christmas foods.
Macy’s
This throwback to old Christmas stop motion animation pieces is a very well made piece of content, very much in the same visual style as “Rudolph”.
TK Maxx
A very different style than the prior two entries, this live-action ad is smaller in scale, but very well crafted.
John Lewis
John Lewis has made a tradition of well made Christmas ads, one even featuring Elton John. This is another fun one, this time incorporating aliens into a Christmas celebration.
Barbour
In 2d illustrations reminiscent of a Children’s book, this Barbour ad featuring Paddington Bear is a fun and very product-centered ad from the UK clothing brand.
Coca-Cola
Coca-Cola is another brand that typically delivers a strong holiday long form ad, this live action piece fits well within other content that Coca-Cola has made, and has relatively little coca-cola placement until the end.
Many small businesses can leverage holiday themed ads very effectively at a much lower budget point. With many local/ regional holiday themed ads running from $10,000-$25,000 in production costs. These ads can be used in a variety of ways, and form the basis for social media content as well as digital and web-based video ad campaigns.
Developing the messaging and media strategy needed for an effective local or regional tv ad campaign requires critically thinking through the timeline, budget, and media placements needed. Media strategy will vary quite a bit depending on business size, niche, and the demographics of your customers.
For automotive dealership marketing, your brand should absolutely be running some sort of themed holiday-focused ad, with 2-3 reiterated main points. While the current marketing environment for automotive is tougher due to the lack of new car inventory, maintaining your branding and name recognition is important. Messaging can range from new car specials, pushing trade-in programs, or warranty and after-sales service.
