Here are some of our favorite advertisements from the summer of 2021 so far!

Many of these ads are large national campaign ads with massive budgets behind them.

Typically advertisers will create ads that reflect current events, such as major sporting events like the super bowl, and this year, the Olympics, or on events such as campaigns or of course the global coronavirus pandemic.

Being able to create content that engages the viewers and hopefully is memorable is key to these large national campaigns. Depending on the ad style, some go the funny route, while others try to be more relatable or heartfelt.

For all of the ads below, entire teams within the agency, production firm, and client came together to plan out and create the ads.

How to Advertise on tv for Small Businesses

TV advertising isn’t just for major national brands, regional and local companies can fully capitalize off the larger viewer numbers and unique demographic that regional and local tv provides.

Navigating media placement, ad production, deciding on a budget, and building a multi-channel campaign can be complicated, but working with a marketing partner gives you the advantage of working with a team that’s worked on hundreds of prior projects.

The multichannel aspect is critically important to generate the higher ROI possible, coordinating the release of a broadcast video ad along with the release of the ad on social media, digital and email channels yields stronger results than just having the ad run on tv.

Broadcast Media buying 101

Generally, media buys aren’t as expensive as you might think on local networks or cable providers, but the timing and placement of the ads are critical to overall campaign success.

Think about who your target audience is, and what they might be watching. Often for local tv, the evening and morning news are strong contenders for ad placement, but other shows and times of day are also strong depending on the demographic.

You need to be very clear when working with local broadcast stations on the time of day, days of the week and the general spread of your media buys before placing the order.  A campaign’s budget can quickly be blown by poorly planned media buys.

Networks should be able to provide the reach of certain spots and information on demographics along with the sheer number of people seeing certain time spots.  Networks can also work with you on short-term or long-term contracts. A yearly media buy contract should of course have some discounts to a small weekly- monthly buying opportunity.

While many networks will provide cost-effective ad creative, the truth is, these ads are often very cookie-cutter, and simply the most basic visuals possible. Often spending a little more, around 10-20% of the media buy on creative will result in much more effective video ads, that are more thought through and will be dramatically more effective not only on local broadcast tv buys but also social media and when used as digital video ads.

Another major aspect of local small business broadcast tv media buying, it’s easy to be pulled into spending more with one network or outlet, but in reality, a more effective and thought-through approach would be to spread your spending across multiple local networks and cable providers. This will put your ad and message in front of a much larger group of people. Don’t forget that many tv ads can easily be adapted into a radio ad as well, which will also expand your ad reach.
